Un casteller és una persona que forma parte de una colla castellera donde intervienen decenas o cente nares de personas con el objetivo de levantar dife rentes construcciones humanas, sin ninguna ayuda mecánica, de diversa complejidad y que han llegado a tener hasta diez pisos de altura.
Se presupone que el origen de los castells,tal co mo los conocemos hoy en dia, proviene de los anti guos Ball dels Valencians, que finalizaban con la elevación de una construcción humana, la cual con el transcurso del tiempo fue adquiriendo importan cia y altura , hasta que se independizó del baile.
